The first time that you hear this Bose system at home, it will put a smile on your face.

I tried several sound bar system in the store and none of them play loud enough to really enjoy a movie with big sound. Also, the sub-woofers in these systems are poor quality, and they just sound like a drum to me.

Regarding some complaints that movie dialogue is not the best with the Bose Cinemate, remember this unit uses 2.1 Surround Sound. So,optimize the sound by setting your DVD/Blu-Ray player sound to 2.1 audio not the typical default, 5.1 (multi-channel). While the dialogue is very acceptable to me when my player is set to 5.1, it is noticeably crisper when properly set to 2.1. I just finished listening to Avatar through the Bose Cinemate II while I was typing here, and I’ve heard all the dialogue very clearly.

Finally, do try connecting your iPod to the RCA connector (red/white jacks). Just pick up a simple y-connector to go from the 3.5mm plug on your iPod to RCA jacks. Either turn off your optical input source (typically your TV), or simply unplug the optical cable. Now, put on some music and enjoy! When I play my classical music, I’m very happy with the quality of all the instrument’s ranges. When the quiet sections of the orchestra come, there is no hiss. When you crank the sound up, it’s astounding and virtually distortion free to my 60 year-old ears. Read more reviews
